can't be friends, doesn't mean u have to pretend that u don't know him/her. You would still say "hi, how r u?", "bye"..etc.. more like how to treat ur normal classmate rather than friends.
You still know that person, but he/she's not ur friends.

actually....we are really really friends.....and she treats me very friendly also(me too, of coz!)
  .....sometimes I only feel a little sour when I think of that day...

but living in US is so small
my friends are his friends
u can't really just say hi and bye to each others when we are in group
and u know that person so well, and right now u need to pretend you guy is just a "hi-bye" friend, i think it is hard and complicate for me
